Two maternity units closed due to a lack of midwives look set to remain shut until April next year. The Grange Birthing Centre in Petersfield, Hampshire, and the Blackbrook Birthing Centre in Fareham closed in July this year.
Bosses at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust have since managed to recruit staff on a temporary basis.
But they say the two sites will remain closed due to financial pressures and the need to maintain safety standards.
Earlier this year, the centres faced staffing problems when 11 workers needed to take maternity leave.
