 Gloucestershire's water parks are man-made |
A land-locked park has picked up the first prestigious Blue Flag award for one of its beaches. Keynes Country Park on the Wiltshire / Gloucestershire border has been given the award because of its facilities, clean water and litter free beaches.
It is the only inland beach in the UK to receive the award - meaning the facilities offered match up to more traditional seaside areas.
Beaches at the park have been awarded a government-backed green flag for the past three years.
The award means the park joins 104 other elite beaches around the country entitled to fly a blue flag.
Gloucestershire's water parks are man-made - the lakes are former quarries which have been filled with water.
The Blue Flag award is only given to beaches which have water clean enough to pass the toughest tests set down by European law.
