It is believed the teenagers were on their way to catch a train |
New safety features are to be introduced at a level crossing at which two teenagers died in December 2005. A footbridge and locked wicket gates have been proposed by Network Rail (NR) at the Elsenham crossing in Essex.
Olivia Bazlinton, 14, and Charlotte Thompson, 13, died when they were hit by a train at Elsenham Station.
Olivia's father Chris Bazlinton said after the tragedy that a locked gate would have prevented the girls getting on to the line.
NR route director Jon Wiseman said: "The recommendations we have announced represent safe and practicable solutions.
"These measures will also ensure the long-term safety of pedestrians as the level of rail traffic through the station increases in future years."
