Scheme to reduce youth crime
Youth arrested
The initiative plans to reducing the number of youth offences
Devon and Cornwall Police have launched a new initiative aimed at reducing crime committed by young people in care in Torbay and south Devon.

The scheme involves holding a series of consultation days with staff from children's homes.

If successful, the scheme could be adopted nationwide.

Acting with various agencies, including the Torbay and South Devon Youth Offending Teams, the Emergency Duty Service Team and Check Point, the police have organised a series of consultation days with staff from children's homes.

They will outline good practice aimed at reducing the number of offences and also the likelihood of children running away from homes.

The initiative has already attracted wider interest from two government departments and a national children's charity, leading to hopes it could be followed nationally.
