Claudia Sturt has warned about privatisation |
Dartmoor Jail will be privatised unless improvements implemented by the new governor in the last three months have been successful. Dartmoor was ranked as one of the three worst prisons in England and Wales in July, just three weeks after new governor Claudia Sturt had started her job.
She admitted then that her main objective was to prevent the jail being privatised.
She said changes had to be made to prove that Dartmoor was a fully functioning category C prison, otherwise the jail's management would be taken out of the public sector.
Many of the changes necessary focused on the employment and education opportunities for inmates.
Monday is the cut-off date for those improvements to be made.
A final assessment will now take place next month.
