Cockermouth's Main Street was devastated by flood waters

A library in Cockermouth which has been temporarily housed in a church after being damaged in floods is to move back to its original premises.

Cockermouth library will reopen on Main Street on Monday.

Floodwaters which swept the county last November left the library more than 4ft (0.3m) under water, causing damage to stock and equipment.

Staff helped set up the temporary library at Christ Church four days after the floods hit.

From 23 November, they assisted flood victims with internet access, photocopying and printing facilities and continued the library's loans scheme.

But during the extremely harsh winter, the library was forced to cut back its opening hours, as temperatures in the large church building plummeted to conditions that were too cold for customers.

Local Rotary and Lions charities donated more than £1,000 to help pay for improvements to the original library which has been refurbished and restocked.

The opening hours of the library will be the same as before the floods.
