The long-awaited Crossrail scheme providing a link across London has been again included in new laws proposed in the Queen's Speech - after failing to become law in the last Parliament.
After years of delay, a route linking the east and west of the city was included in the government's legislative programme.
It would allow trains to run through London offering a range of possible services to areas such as Shenfield to the east and Maidenhead to the west.
Crossrail Line 1 also includes an option to serve Heathrow Airport.
Public money
Transport Secretary Alistair Darling revealed plans for a bill which will allow the scheme to go ahead last July.
But the government has said the cost of Crossrail could not be met solely, or even largely, by taxpayers.
A Crossrail spokesman has said it would not be ready for the Olympics in 2012.
Both private and public money will be used to fund the scheme.
