Air accident investigators are trying to establish what caused an aircraft to crash on the island of Lundy. The Cessna 172 caught fire as it went out of control on take off during an air rally at 1430 BST on Sunday.
The 46-year-old pilot from Pembrokeshire was knocked unconsciousness for several minutes during which time the plane started to leak fuel.
Onlookers rescued him from the plane which burst into flames shortly afterwards.
An RAF helicopter took him to North Devon District Hospital, in Barnstaple, where he was kept overnight for observation.
Devon and Cornall Police, said the pilot, who has not been named, suffered facial injuries but was not seriously hurt in the crash.
