'Rapist threatened to kill girl'
Prison truck
Mr Imiela arrives at Maidstone Crown Court
A man accused of a series of rapes told a 10-year-old girl he abducted that he would kill her if she screamed, a court has heard.

Antoni Imiela is alleged to have snatched and raped the girl as she took down posters outside a youth club in Ashford, Kent, in November 2001.

Mr Imiela, 49, of Appledore, near Ashford, denies nine counts of rape in Kent, Berkshire, Surrey, Hertfordshire and south-west London in 2001 and 2002.

He also denies the kidnap, indecent assault and attempted rape of a 10-year-old girl in Birmingham on 21 November, 2002.

He said that if you scream or cry or anything then he would break my legs or kill me
Girl, 10, giving video evidence
The girl abducted in Ashford described in a video interview played at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday how she was threatened by her attacker.

The girl said: "He said that if you scream or cry or anything then he would break my legs or kill me."

She said he had forced her to perform a sex act on him, adding: "So I did because I didn't want my legs broken or to be killed."

The girl said her attacker tied her trousers loosely round her neck.

DNA sample

She said: "He said: 'If you try to get away then I will strangle you'."

The child said she was eventually left to count to 500 while he walked away.

The jury had earlier heard how Mr Imiela abducted a 10-year-old girl in Birmingham as she walked to a friend's house.

He is alleged to have forced the child into his car at knifepoint before driving her around for five hours and repeatedly sexually abusing her.

Mark Dennis, prosecuting, said the attack in Birmingham happened only two days after Mr Imiela had given a DNA sample to officers in Kent investigating the other attacks.

He insisted that she should pretend that they were lovers and that she should show she was enjoying herself

Mr Imiela was arrested 12 days later as he travelled along the M20 in Kent, the court heard.

Two hairs which matched the DNA profile of the girl from Birmingham were allegedly found on the back seat of his car.

Mr Dennis said the girl had described her attacker as having "almost a dual personality" during the five-hour ordeal.

The man was sometimes nice to her, asking her to use the name 'Tony', and at other times threatened violence.

Mr Dennis said: "He insisted that she should pretend that they were lovers and that she should show she was enjoying herself."

Unused condom

He said the area in Birmingham where the girl was attacked was familiar to the former railway worker, who had worked there in 2001.

Mr Imiela's movements had been traced from his home in Kent towards Birmingham on that day, using mobile phone records, credit card transactions and sightings of his car.

Mr Dennis said the girl had picked Mr Imiela out from a video identity parade and her description of her attacker's vehicle was consistent with the Citroen he drove.

Police who searched him at Folkestone Police Station after his arrest found a lock knife and unused condom on him, Mr Dennis said.

More condoms were found hidden at his home, despite the fact he did not use them with his wife.

The trial continues.
