Smoke causes paraglider to crash
Malvern Hills fire
Hundreds of walkers were on the hills when the fire started
A paraglider was airlifted to hospital after smoke on the Malvern Hills caused him to crash.

The 20-year-old was taken to Worcestershire Royal Infirmary for treatment to a back injury.

He got into difficulties in dense smoke as 75 firefighters tackled a fire on the hills on Saturday afternoon.

A five-hectare area, to the east of the Worcestershire Beacon, was well ablaze when the firecrews arrived.

Firefighters from Malvern, Worcester, Droitwich, Pershore, Upton, Bromyard and Ledbury took more than three hours to bring the fire under control.

The hills were busy with walkers when the fire broke out, and the cause is being investigated.
