Charity saves hospital project
Royal Shrewsbury Hospitals NHS Trust
Work on the diabetes centre should start in the summer
A charity has agreed to donate 200,000 towards the cost of building a diabetes centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The Hummingbird Appeal has raised 400,000 to build the specialist diabetes centre at the hospital.

But two weeks ago the scheme was put on hold after the hospital trust said it did not have the extra 200,000 needed to go ahead with the project.

The hospital's League of Friends has agreed to donate the cash needed to build the centre.

Work starts

Hospital spokesman Phil Hipkiss said he was delighted with the offer.

"It's extremely generous of them and it means we can go ahead and construct the centre which will be the first purpose built centre for diabetes in Shropshire.

"We've got planning permission and detailed designs have yet to be completed."

He said work on the centre should start in the summer.

The league has already pledged 600,000 this year towards other projects at the hospital.
