Staff will track the position of all GNER daily services |
A new GNER control centre has opened, promising customers better information and help when the East Coast Mainline is disrupted. The 260,000 facility in York has two large wall mounted computers screens allowing staff to track the position of all the company's 122-daily services.
It also provides a direct and continuous link, by telephone and pagers, with almost 1,000 GNER drivers and on-train staff.
Chairman of the Strategic Rail Authority Richard Bowker opened the national control centre on Friday.
Christopher Garnett, GNER's chief executive, said: "This new control centre is a very important development in our continuing efforts to look after passengers, during good times and bad.
"Unfortunately train services can be disrupted for all sorts of reasons, including bad weather, overhead line power problems, suicides and train failures."
GNER is also planning to link the York control facility to a new management disruption and information centre at Kings Cross station in London later this year.
