| Monday, 25 November, 2002, 12:38 GMT New jobs choke motorway junction ![]() Congestion will only get worse at the junction A motorway junction in West Yorkshire is one of the UK's fastest growing congestion hotspots, according to a new traffic survey. Monitoring organisation Trafficmaster claims the spot at Birstall, where the M621 and M62 meet, is one of the worst in the country. Drivers already face delays of up to an hour to travel just 20 miles at peak times. But with 40,000 new jobs earmarked for the region over the next 10 years it is predicted to get even worse. The Highways Agency says the road currently carries more than 153,000 vehicles each day - twice the volume it was designed to cope with. Georgina Osbourne, spokeswoman for Trafficmaster, said: "The area has attracted lots of new business and industry - so of course it's created lots of traffic as well". | See also: 12 Nov 02 | England 09 Nov 02 | UK 07 Nov 02 | England Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top England stories now: Links to more England stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
