Body washed up on beach
Whitehaven, Cumbria
Mr Durkin's body was found on beaches at Whitehaven
The body of a man who went missing from his Cumbria home has been found washed up on a beach.

Alexander Durkin, 57, who lived in Whitehaven, was discovered by coastguards on Monday near sea cadet huts on the town's coastline.

Police say Mr Durkin had been reported missing by his family after they had become concerned about his whereabouts.

His car was found abandoned on the North Shore and coastguards started to look for him.

His body was found nearby.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "We responded to the family's concerns about this gentleman and unfortunately he was later found on the shore.

"We are not treating his death as suspicious."

The coroner has been informed.
