The display, at the Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, Carlisle, is due to be opened by Adele Roberts, from TV's Big Brother show, on Wednesday evening. The 23-year-old said she hoped the exhibition would reach a large number of young people. She will be joined by Rodney Bickerstaffe, former general secretary of the public services union Unison. Translated worldwide The exhibition, entitled Anne Frank: A History for Today, tells the story of a 13-year-old Dutch-Jewish girl, who hid in an attic in Amsterdam to escape the Nazis during World War Two. She kept a diary of her cramped life but was eventually betrayed by a neighbour or policeman, and died in a concentration camp. Anne's teenage diary of a Jewish family in hiding in occupied Amsterdam has been translated into dozens of languages and read by millions worldwide. More than 1.8 million people in the UK have viewed the Anne Frank exhibition, but this is its first visit to Cumbria. A total of 40 local schools have made arrangements for 2,000 pupils to visit the display as part of the citizenship element of the National Curriculum.
