Row over riverside housing
Whisstocks yard in Woodbridge
Whisstocks yard could be developed
Pressure is mounting to protect a prime riverside site in Suffolk from development.

Planners have already rejected proposals for designer homes at Whisstocks yard in Woodbridge.

But the firm behind the plans is challenging that decision.

An inquiry will be held over the next few weeks.

In its prime, Whisstocks yard produced top quality boats.

But now it is redundant and developers want the land to build luxury homes.

There is huge opposition though and many locals claim the riverside could be ruined.

Kim Tester, who runs a Metalfix Marine metalworking business next door to the site, said he should not have to spend time opposing the plans.

"It is so frustrating that I should have to waste my precious time in doing this thing that should not be questioned," he said.

"This is an industrial area, it should stay that way, there are plenty of other spaces for houses."
