Independent school GCSE results
Pupils
More pupils are achieving the highest grades
This summer's independent school GCSE results have shown an increasing number gaining the top grades.

With rankings based on results from the Independent Schools Information Service, this table shows the independent schools which have the highest average results for pupils at GCSEs.

Scores are calculated by giving points for each GCSE grade gained by a pupil, based on eight points for an A through to one point for a G grade.

This total of points for grades is then turned into an average for each pupil entered for an exam - with Abbey School in Reading achieving the highest average.

Schools which have adopted international qualifications at GCSE, such as Winchester College, appear much lower in the table than their pupils have actually performed.
