A classic British brand could make a come back |
China's Nanjing Automobile Corporation (NAC) has said it will bring back the iconic British racer Austin Healey. The new owner of MG Rover said it has agreed with the Healey brand to develop the classic marque, which went out of production in the late 1960s.
Nanjing owns the rights to develop the brands as part of its acquisition of the bankrupt MG Rover group in 2005.
In May, it unveiled three new MG TF sportscars at the offical reopening of MG Rover's Longbridge plant.
The production line, though, will be mainly used for fitting the auto parts together, while most of the MGs' components, from the gearbox to engine, will be manufactured in China.
Nanjing Auto said it will collaborate with Healey Automobile Consultants and HFI Automotive on the future development of the Healey marque, but no timeline was given.
In their heyday, the cars dominated track and rally events around the world.
